Welcome, Yu!
We’re excited to introduce Yu Tao, our newest Data Analyst! Learn more about her current role, career journey, and who excites her about life.
Tell us about your new role at Holistic! What do you do? Who are you working with?
I am a part-time data analyst at Holistic. I work with Leah and the other data team members to create dashboards and analysis reports for our clients. Through visualization and calculation, we draw meaningful insights from a bunch of data and generate some practical suggestions. Currently, I am still learning new tools and trying to understand the logic behind our products. Hope I will soon be able to take charge of projects by myself.
We’re interested in learning more about your background. Can you tell us more about your career journey?
I am a graduate student from the University of Chicago. I major in Public Policy Analysis. I began to feel interested about data analysis two years ago. To equip myself with the necessary skills, I took a series of statistical and programming courses. I also took an internship at Amazon to achieve some practical experience. I have got a lot of fun playing with data. I think it’s meaningful work that helps people make the right decision. In the future, I hope to apply my analysis skills to some fields that interest me.
Let’s switch gears. What excites you about life? What gives you hope?
It makes me excited to keep learning new things. It does not only mean skills and knowledge related to my major or work. It also means all kinds of stuff, like cooking, playing a new video game, repairing electric appliances, etc. Whether I do a good job or not, the process of learning brings me a lot of fun.
My hope mostly comes from the love of my family. Every time I feel frustrated, their unconditional support will give me a lot of courage. Knowing they are always there for me makes me believe I can overcome any hardships.
Who is someone you admire?
I can’t name a specific person, but I admire people with some features. In general, I admire people who can always keep optimistic even when experiencing huge obstacles and people who are very capable and still keep humble.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I am good at drawing and designing. I used to design posters for my school. My useless talent is that I am good at holding my breath lol. I can hold my breath for more than 2 minutes.
Lastly, what do you do for fun?
I like reading comics, playing video games and I also draw comics by myself. Drawing is my method to record and share my life. During holidays, I would like to take a trip with my friends. I enjoy exploring new places, trying different foods, and learning about new cultures.
Thank you for all that you do, Yu!
