Welcome, Sarah!
We’re excited to introduce Sarah, one of our winter interns! Learn more about her role as an intern, what her career goals look like, and what she does for fun.
Tell us about your role as an intern at Holistic. What do you do? Who do you work with?
As an intern, I work with the Client team but am also excited to explore other teams and support Holistic wherever I can. I work with Guthrie, Tanja, and my fellow intern Anne. I am currently working on a project auditing the Holistic blog and making sure the content is updated to reflect the company’s evolving understandings of topics surrounding diversity and inclusion.
Where do you currently go to school? What do you study? Can you share a few of your career goals with us?
I am currently a third-year student at the University of Chicago pursuing a double major in Public Policy and Economics with a minor in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures. My studies have allowed me to explore my interests in public and private influences on key institutions, as well as connect with my roots as a Moroccan American. One career goal I have held for a long time is to work with people that are truly passionate about their jobs and see their career as more than a means to an end. Although I am still exploring what field I want to go into, I have found this principle has guided me towards rewarding experiences and meaningful connections with coworkers and mentors.
What makes you excited about working for Holistic?
So many things! It is my first time working in the consulting space and I am very excited to learn more about the industry. I am also looking forward to learning about how Holistic uses survey data to measure and quantify the employee experience for their clients. Finally, the kindness and welcoming nature of everyone here has made me very excited to get to know the people I will be working with and hear their Holistic stories.
What do you do for fun?
Music is my main form of entertainment; I love listening to music as well as making music on my guitar, whether that be covering my favorite artists or writing my own songs. I also enjoy keeping in touch with family and spending quality time with my friends at school.
Who is someone you admire?
Jeannette Walls, author of The Glass Castle, a memoir I read for the first time when I was thirteen and to this day remains one of my favorite stories of resilience in the face of tremendous obstacles. Her story has changed my perspective on what it means to forge your own path in life, especially as a part of the immigrant community, and what many of us leave behind in pursuit of the American Dream.
What are you listening to at the moment? Watching? Obsessed with?
Right now, a few artists on my heavy rotation are Tyler the Creator, Chicago rapper Joey Purp, Amber Mark, and First Aid Kit, a long-time favorite folk duo of mine. Recently, I took a trip to Puerto Rico with my sister and quickly became obsessed with plantains – I have been attempting to recreate the recipes in my kitchen since then with varying levels of success.
