Welcome, Jinnah!
We’re excited to introduce Jinnah Alim, our new Administrative Assistant! Learn more about her current role, career journey, and what excites her about life in this interview.
Tell us about your new role at Holistic! What do you do? Who are you working with?
I'll be working with the Holistic leadership team, Tom, Lisa, and Tanja, as an Administrative Assistant to maintain their schedules and organize their time with our team and our clients. I'll also be doing some other organizational tasks that will keep the entire Holistic team on track with meetings, tasks, and communications with our client base. Among these things, I will be supporting Holistic's client and business development efforts as well. I'm so excited to be the first individual in this full-time role and I hope to alleviate a lot of extra work from our entire team!
We’re interested in learning more about your background. Can you tell us more about your career journey?
I graduated from the University of Missouri and obtained my degree in Health Sciences. While holding many different positions throughout college in order to pay for my education, I learned so many useful skills and met a lot of amazing people. After being an Operations Coordinator at Veterans United Home Loans, I dove into my passion for coaching and training and became a coach at the Parisi Speed School of Columbia. I loved coaching people of all ages, from elementary school aged athletes, to high schoolers, to Mizzou athletes, all the way to senior citizens. It was rewarding to help people reach their health and fitness goals and give them the necessary tools needed to become confident in themselves to be able to accomplish anything they desired. I then worked as a Health Specialist for the CDC Info team, where I assisted in providing clinical inquiry responses about COVID-19 to healthcare professionals, educators, and government agencies. This position was fulfilling in the way that I was able to assist people both nationally and internationally in the fight to understand and power through this pandemic. Now, at Holistic, I am ecstatic to work with the leadership team and use my passion for helping others to assist everyone in having a smooth and manageable day-to-day experience. I believe that a part of health is overall wellness and I'm excited to make sure our team members are working towards that!
Let’s switch gears. What excites you about life? What gives you hope? What keeps you up at night?
Some things that excite me about life and energize me are both experiencing new things and finding comfort in traditions. Progression gives me hope. I believe in change, improvement, progress, and learning, and I believe we are all responsible for working towards doing this for ourselves, our families, and our communities. I think in the end, this can turn into us changing the world for the better. On the flip side of that, sometimes the state of the world feels heavy and scary and my angst about it keeps me up at night.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received, and why?
My brother and one of my role models, Malik Alim (Rest in Power) gave me this advice: "If it's not 100% yes, it's a no." This has helped me a lot in so many aspects of my life, from picking out an outfit to setting boundaries with people. Malik gave me this advice to say that a lot of times we do things with uncertainty, but the goal should be to be very sure of yourself and the things you say and do.
If you had an extra hour each day, what would you do with it?
I would try out a new recipe everyday if I had an extra hour... or maybe I would get a massage everyday!
Lastly, what do you do for fun?
For fun, I like to take pictures. Photography is something that has somewhat lost its artform and I like to use my creative side to be a photographer. I love to listen to music, hang out with my niece and nephew, work out, watch sports with my family, and explore new places and experiences with my friends. I also love to relax for fun, though I don't get the chance to do it very often!
Thank you for all that you do, Jinnah!
