Who's Doing it Well? West Monroe Taking Meaningful Action
One of the most frequent questions we receive — and try and answer at Holistic — is “Who is doing it well?” It’s always been really informative to hear the good ideas others have. After all, as we say, there’s no IP in inclusion. This feature will highlight creative ideas from other companies. Check out the whole list here or submit your own suggestion below.
Now more than ever, recognizing the difference between thoughts and action is everything. Whether it was posting a black square for #blackouttuesday or changing social media icons to a rainbow for pride month, there are many tools businesses have implemented to show that their thoughts and support are with others. But last week we asked, Are You Prepared for What You're Signing Up For?, and we have seen certain companies prove that they are.
TL/DR; West Monroe is diverting funds and resources, committing to engaging in conversations, and partnering with BEN to tackle systemic inequality.
Who: West Monroe Partners, a business and technology consulting firm based in Chicago.
What’s the big idea💡: They issued a statement recently to not only condemn racial injustice, but to show what they’ll be doing in response. CEO Kevin McCarty outlined his plans for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at West Monroe; these plans include hiring an inclusion and diversity leader to invest 100% of their time in these issues as well as partnering with the Black Employees Network to guarantee the meaningful actions of the company.
Why it works: Making structural changes to a company can be difficult, but their clear guidelines will make it easier to hold them accountable for their proposed initiatives. To both encourage meaningful conversations and to have infrastructure in place to do so effectively will ensure that these changes will have a positive outcome. Both in and out of the workplace, they are taking ownership of combating racial inequality.
(Not so) Hidden value: Yes, it matters that they publicly address these issues, but the fact that they’re also addressing them internally makes all the difference. This is a long-lasting, permanent change that will inspire a more diverse, more inclusionary, and more successful workplace.
