Who's Doing it Well? Dinner on NetMotion

One of the most frequent questions we receive — and try and answer at Holistic — is “Who is doing it well?” It’s always been really informative to hear the good ideas others have. After all, as we say, there’s no IP in inclusion. This feature will highlight creative ideas from other companies. Check out the whole list here or submit your own suggestion below.

Who: NetMotion Software, a software company based in Seattle.

What’s the big idea 💡: Unexpectedly, and as a surprise, NetMotion CEO Christopher Kenessey sent out an email to the whole team telling them that NetMotion was buying them and their families dinner that night.

Why it works: It’s easy. They just bought dinner for everyone. And it’s a show of gratitude. It was a surprise. It came with a nice note.

Also, is there anything more instagrammable than food? No. So it lent itself perfectly to members of the team starting to post pictures everywhere.

(Not so) hidden value: Two things. First, spending money while saving shows how important the priority is for the company. And it sends a message — we’re saving every penny, but we’ll spend on our people.

Second, if NetMotion would have given everyone $50, it wouldn’t have near the impact. But because NetMotion used its purchasing power to help its employees support other small businesses — many of whom are in tremendous pain as well — it was a really clever exercise.

TL/DR: NetMotion Software bought dinner for its team.
